Carbon Scol’ÈRE: A program that helps young people make a tangible contribution to reducing greenhouse gasesSoupe pour Elles: A community movement that warms the heart!
On February 27, 2019 at noon, thousands of people are expected at Place des Arts Esplanade in Montréal, where they will warm both their hands and hearts at the Soupe pour Elles event. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for participants to show their support for women in need by making a donation that will directly contribute to improving their quality of life.
Launched in 2015 by Sophie Brochu, President and Chief Executive Officer at Énergir, Soupe pour Elles is both a community movement that helps women grappling with homelessness, abuse or poverty, and a fundraising campaign to support organizations that assist these women.
Aiming higher in 2019
Held every two years since 2015, Soupe pour Elles raised more than $100,000 during its first edition and over $230,000 in 2017. Given today’s ever-increasing needs, the organizers intend to exceed this amount in 2019. Community partner organizations therefore play a key role in helping women handle difficult situations and in offering them support.
A movement that is gaining ground
This year, two new organizations, Mères avec pouvoir and La Maison Bleue, have been added to the list of nine organizations who participated in 2017, namely Le Chaînon, Auberge Madeleine, Maison Passages, Old Brewery Mission – Patricia Mackenzie Pavilion, La Maison Marguerite, Chez Doris, La Rue des Femmes, Logis Rose‑Virginie and La Dauphinelle.
Donations that make a real difference
The funds raised on February 27 and by the fundraising campaign (to which contributions can be made directly online via La Ruche) will be distributed equally among the 11 organizations to be allocated according to their specific needs and priorities. If you wonder what impact a donation can have, as modest as it may be, keep in mind that $10 can provide three meals to a woman in need.
The key is to participate!
Whether you attend the Soupe pour Elles event on February 27 or make an online donation, your contribution is important and demonstrates your support for women in need and those who look after them on a daily basis. It’s a way to reach out and let them know they are not alone. It’s a message of hope that gives meaning to the word “solidarity” and can make all the difference in the lives of these women. So please give generously!
