Now more than ever, people in vulnerable situations need help. That’s why Énergir and the Union des municipalités du Québec (UMQ) have jointly committed to making $40,000 in donations to 40 rehabilitation centres across Québec that help young people who are struggling to adapt. In this article, we present seven of these organizations and examples of how they have used the donations to make a difference in the lives of young people and those who work with them on a daily basis.

Fondation du Centre jeunesse de la Montérégie

The Fondation du Centre jeunesse de la Montérégie helps more than 2,800 young people who have been neglected, abandoned, or victims of psychological, physical or sexual abuse. With the donations from Énergir and the UMQ, the organization was able to purchase books, movies, board games, bicycles, helmets, comforters and blankets for the little ones, as well as drawing materials. “Many children express their emotions by drawing”, said Suzie Roy, Executive Director of the Foundation. “The items and activities funded by these donations will help these children to return to as normal a life as possible. They will help them grow and feel motivated and supported, which is so important!” she added. The donations are also very much appreciated by the staff: “These are extremely helpful tools in working with young people, to keep them motivated and happy. That’s what these donations allow us to do.”

Énergir and its support of youth As part of its Community Investment Policy, Énergir provides financial support for projects that help young people. Énergir is one of the founding organizations of the Ruelle de l’avenir, a unique learning environment for hundreds of elementary school students in the Centre-Sud and Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhoods. Énergir also supports a number of youth employment centres in Québec, as well as organizations that offer homework help and those that support families, particularly in disadvantaged areas.
